Roles and Affiliations: Samuel Estreicher is the Dwight D. Opperman Professor of Public Law at NYU School of Law. He serves as Director of the Center for Labor and Employment Law and the Institute of Judicial Administration. He has been a faculty member since 1978 and maintains an active appellate and ADR practice.
Education: BA from Columbia College (1970), MS in Industrial Relations from Cornell University (1974), JD from Columbia Law School (1975). He was editor-in-chief of the Columbia Law Review.
Research Interests: Focuses on U.S. and international-comparative labor and employment law, arbitration law, and access to justice. His work addresses labor law reform, global labor rights, and the Foreign Relations Power of the United States. He has authored over a dozen books, including Beyond Elite Law: Access to Civil Justice in America, and over 200 articles.
Teaching: Teaches courses on labor law, employment discrimination, appellate advocacy, and sports law. Notable courses include Appellate & Legislative Advocacy Workshop and Employee Relations and Talent Negotiations in the Entertainment Industry.
Professional Contributions: Served as Chief Reporter for the American Law Institute’s Restatement of Employment Law (2015). Former secretary of the American Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section. Member of the UN’s Internal Justice Commission (2016). Recipient of the 2010 Susan C. Eaton Award.
Other Roles: Advisor to major law firms, former U.S. Supreme Court clerk (Justice Lewis F. Powell Jr.), and contributor to Supreme Court briefs on employment and foreign relations law.
