Samuel Duncan serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Leadership, Middle, & Secondary Education at Southeast Missouri State University. A retired Missouri school superintendent with 26 years of K-12 administrative experience (including 9 years as superintendent, 8 years in central office roles, and 9 years as principal), he also taught high school English and French while coaching football, basketball, and advising yearbook.
His academic credentials include a BS in English Education (1988), MA in Educational Leadership (1991), and Educational Specialist in Superintendency (1996) from Southeast Missouri State University, followed by an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis (2000) through a University of Missouri/Southeast MO State collaboration. He holds Missouri Superintendent and Advanced Principal lifetime certifications.
Dr. Duncan's research focuses on educational leadership development, K-12 policy implementation, and school administration practices, informed by extensive practical experience. His professional affiliations include the Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA), SEMO Superintendents, and Missouri Principals Association (MPEA).
Personal highlights include 38 years of marriage to Melanie Duncan (retired math teacher/counselor), three children, three grandchildren, and hobbies involving 1965 Mustang restoration, snow skiing, and songwriting.
