Dr. Samuel Collins is Associate Professor of Medieval History and Director of Undergraduate History Programs at George Mason University.
Education includes PhD (UC Berkeley) in Medieval History, MA (Durham University) in Medieval History, and BA (Whitman College) in History.
His research investigates medieval monastic reforms, sacred space controversies, and late antique ascetic traditions. Monograph The Carolingian Debate Over Sacred Space (2014) analyzes 9th-century ecclesiastical architecture disputes. Current work examines how monastic reformers adapted ascetic language to institutional changes.
Courses cover medieval Europe, Roman Empire fall, Anglo-Saxon England, Crusades, and medieval monasticism, spanning undergraduate and graduate levels.
