Chad Turner, PhD, serves as an Adjunct Instructor Level 1 – Off-Campus in the Department of Humanities, Philosophy & Religions within the College of Arts, Sciences and Education at Ferris State University, where he can be reached at ChadTurner@ferris.edu.
Dr. Turner’s education is broad and interdisciplinary. His academic journey includes:
- MPHIL in History from The City University of New York
- MA in Medieval Studies from the University of Leeds
- MA in Theology from the University of Dayton
- BA in Theology from Lee University
His research focuses on the intellectual and spiritual world of medieval monasticism, particularly the Cistercian tradition and the writings of the twelfth-century abbot Aelred of Rievaulx. He investigates how hagiography, liturgical vestments, sacramental theology, and the role of the laity intersect in the construction of monastic identity and ecclesiastical authority.
Dr. Turner is an active participant in international medieval studies conferences, having presented numerous papers on topics such as clerical vestments in Aelred’s works, the rewriting of hagiography during monastic reform movements, and the Anglo-Saxon past as constructed by Cistercian authors.
