Samuel Burgum

Dr Samuel Burgum is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Birmingham City University. Prior to joining BCU, he held teaching roles at the Universities of York, Warwick, and Newcastle, and a research position at the Higher Education Academy (HEA). His work focuses on urban marginalization, property politics, and critical theory.

• Research Interests: Criminalization of trespass, squatting, neoliberal housing policies, socio-spatial inequalities, and urban resistance movements.
• Funding: ESRC-funded 'Narrow Margins' project (current); previously Leverhulme Trust-funded squatting research (Sheffield) and ESRC-funded Occupy London study (Warwick).
• Notable Publications: Monograph Occupying London: Post-Crash Resistance and the Limits of Possibility (Routledge, 2018).
