Sam Lovatt is a Senior Lecturer in Primary Education and Subject Knowledge Lead for Primary Computing at St Mary's University's School of Education. He joined the institution in 2021 and specializes in delivering sessions on primary computing across various education programs. He is an internal associate of the Centre for Wellbeing in Education and a member of the Chartered College of Teaching and BERA.
Sam holds a Bachelor’s in Primary Education (QTS) from Canterbury Christ Church University (2015), a Master’s in Educational Practice from the University of Roehampton (2021), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (202X), granting him Fellowship of the Higher Education Association.
His research focuses on generative AI adoption in schools, technology-pedagogy intersections, and primary computing education. Recent work explores Design & Technology integration with computing and classroom perceptions of AI. He actively presents at conferences such as BERA and The Big Computing Leadership Conference, addressing pedagogical frameworks like 'Scratch Pedagogies' and early career researcher experiences.
Sam’s professional background includes teaching in South London primary schools (Years 3-6) and leadership roles managing reading and foundation subject curricula. He advocates for equitable educational outcomes and innovative teaching practices.
