Dr. Sam Campbell is a Lecturer at the Te Piringa Faculty of Law at the University of Waikato, New Zealand. He holds a PhD in Law and is an environmental law expert focusing on balancing values in environmental and water law, particularly in international and domestic contexts. His research emphasizes relational values, protected areas, and transboundary water governance, with affiliations to the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law and World Commission on Protected Areas.
Education:

Research Interests: Environmental law, water law, freshwater conservation, protected areas, and the intersection of legal frameworks with cultural/spiritual values. He has conducted fieldwork in collaboration with UNESCO and participated in high-profile conferences like the World Water Week.
Grants: Recipient of the Borrin Foundation Travel & Learning Award (2023) to study rivers in UNESCO’s World Heritage framework and transboundary water cooperation.
Teaching: Convenes courses on environmental law, civil procedure, and legal ethics. Supervises Masters and PhD students in international environmental law, water law, and New Zealand resource management law.
