Salman Bhai is a Clinical Professor and Director of the Neuromuscular Center at the Institute of Exercise and Environmental Medicine (IEEM) at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, affiliated with the Department of Neurology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He holds an MD from Harvard Medical School and completed his neurology training at Harvard’s joint residency program between Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
His research focuses on neuromuscular disorders, particularly inflammatory and metabolic myopathies, immune checkpoint inhibitor complications, and translational studies on muscle-organ communication. Key projects include clinical trials for metabolic myopathies, biomarker discovery, and molecular analysis of myositis patients. He collaborates with institutions like UTSW labs on immune phenotyping and biomarker research.
Dr. Bhai is a leader in neurologic medical education, having developed multi-modal curricula for trainees and continues mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows. He has received prestigious awards including the Bertarelli Fellowship and Wilderness Medicine grants.
Recent work emphasizes caregiver burden in myopathies, racial disparities in dermatomyositis presentation, and optimizing exercise recommendations for myositis patients. He chairs international workshops on rhabdomyolysis and myositis classification, influencing global diagnostic and treatment standards.
