Anahit C. Mehrabyan

Anahit C. Mehrabyan, MD is an Assistant Professor of Neurology in the Department of Neurology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She specializes in neuromuscular disorders with particular expertise in hereditary and autoimmune muscle diseases as well as neuromuscular junction disorders.

Dr. Mehrabyan's research interests focus on hereditary and autoimmune diseases of muscle. Her clinical expertise encompasses hereditary diseases of muscle including muscular dystrophies, congenital myopathies, and muscle channelopathies; autoimmune diseases of muscle including dermatomyositis, necrotizing autoimmune myopathies, and sporadic inclusion body myositis (sIBM); and autoimmune diseases of the neuromuscular junction including myasthenia gravis and Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS). She also has expertise in paraneoplastic syndromes of the peripheral nervous system.

Her recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on autoimmune neuromuscular disorders, particularly myasthenia gravis and novel subtypes of autoimmune myopathy. Her work spans clinical case reports, treatment reviews, and disease prognostication, reflecting both her clinical practice and research interests in neuromuscular medicine.

Dr. Mehrabyan is board certified in Neurology (2017), Neuromuscular Medicine (2018), and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (2019). She performs nerve conduction studies and electromyography as part of her clinical practice.

Her educational background includes medical training at Yerevan State Medical University (1988-1994), followed by neurology residency at the same institution (1994-1997). She completed additional training in the United States, including an internal medicine internship (2012-2013) and neurology residency (2013-2016) at UNC Chapel Hill, a neuromuscular medicine fellowship at Penn State Hershey Medical Center (2016-2017), and postdoctoral research fellowships at Eastern Virginia Medical School (2002-2005) and UNC Chapel Hill (2005-2010).
