Nathaniel Wooten

Nathaniel Wooten, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at the UNC School of Medicine and Associate Program Director for the Child Neurology Residency Program. He specializes in pediatric neuromuscular disorders and provides clinical care at UNC Health facilities in Chapel Hill and Raleigh, North Carolina.

Research and Clinical Focus

Dr. Wooten focuses on developing treatments for pediatric neuromuscular disorders, with expertise in neuromuscular ultrasound and electromyography (EMG). His clinical work addresses conditions such as spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), muscular dystrophies, myasthenia gravis, and hereditary neuropathies (CMT). He advocates for patient and family-centered care and multidisciplinary approaches.

Procedures and Training

He performs adult and pediatric EMG, sedated pediatric EMG, and neuromuscular ultrasound diagnostics. His training includes a fellowship in Neuromuscular Diseases and Pediatric Neurology at UNC, followed by residency and medical school at the same institution.
