Sak Onkvisit is a Professor of Marketing at the Department of Marketing and Business Analytics within San José State University's Lucas College and Graduate School of Business. He has been at SJSU since 1986 and earned tenure in 1989. His academic journey includes teaching roles at Pennsylvania State University, Illinois State University, and Northeastern Illinois University. He holds a Ph.D. in Marketing (with a minor in International Business) from the University of Kentucky (1976).
Dr. Onkvisit specializes in international marketing, consumer behavior, and services marketing. His research emphasizes cross-cultural advertising, global marketing strategies, and the application of marketing principles in diverse contexts. He has authored influential textbooks like International Marketing: Analysis and Strategy (Routledge, 2004) and Consumer Behavior: Analysis and Strategy (Macmillan, 1994), widely adopted globally. His work has been cited extensively in journals such as the Journal of Advertising Research and Business Horizons.
His career includes notable accolades: a 1993-1994 Fulbright Scholarship at Thammasat University (Bangkok) and a 2006 Fulbright Senior Specialist appointment at Tomsk State University (Russia). He has also contributed to editorial boards of journals like the Journal of Marketing Education and Service Industries Journal, and reviewed projects for the National Science Foundation and the American Marketing Association.
Teaching spans undergraduate, MBA, and doctoral programs in the U.S., Thailand, and Russia. His professional service includes roles on SJSU's Academic Senate and numerous committees. Current office hours (Fall 2019) are Monday/Wednesday 9:00–10:25 AM and 4:15–4:30 PM in BT 758.
