Sahar El Aidy is a Tenure Track Assistant Professor at the University of Groningen, affiliated with the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Groningen Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology Institute. Her research focuses on gut microbiota’s role in metabolic and neurological health, including gut-brain interactions and probiotic applications. She has been awarded the Athena Award 2020, Daniel T. O'Connor Memorial Award, and Young Academy Groningen membership. Her work addresses metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease, schizophrenia spectrum disorder, and microbial metabolite conversions.
El Aidy has published 68 research outputs and secured grants like the Open Competition Science-M grants (2023). She actively engages in public lectures on gut microbiology and mental health, and contributes to datasets on probiotic effects and gut permeability mechanisms. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges microbiology, organic chemistry, and neuroscience.
