Dr Safi Darden is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of Exeter. She investigates social behaviour evolution and cooperation mechanisms in vertebrate and invertebrate systems, with a focus on Trinidadian guppies as a model organism for studying sexual conflict and population-level behavioural dynamics.

Her research bridges individual decision-making and collective social evolution, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches through projects like Understanding and fostering belonging in education amongst Black youth in the UK. She leads fieldwork on mesocarnivore behavioural variation and lab-based studies on cooperation.
Active in inclusivity initiatives, she co-founded Exeter Soapbox Science, serves as University Responsible Metrics Champion, and leads racial equality efforts in academia. Current funded opportunities include NERC GW4 DTP PhD studentships and collaborations with the University of Southampton.
