Andrew Higginson is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Exeter and a NERC Independent Research Fellow. He is affiliated with the Centre for Research in Animal Behaviour (CRAB) and holds a joint role in the Psychology department. His work focuses on evolutionary ecology, the evolution of psychological mechanisms, and research methodology.
- PhD in Behavioural Ecology from the University of Nottingham (2005)
- BSc in Behavioural Science from the University of Nottingham (2002)
His research integrates mathematical and computational modeling (state-dependent dynamic programming in MATLAB) with behavioral experiments and dataset analysis. Key topics include nutrient-dependent decision-making, predation effects, sexual conflict, and behavioral defenses. He also investigates cross-disciplinary impacts on climate change adaptation and public health.
Andrew is an Associate Editor at Evolutionary Ecology and has contributed to a broad range of scientific journals. He teaches statistics, develops administrative tools, and designs interactive outreach activities.
- NERC Independent Research Fellowship (2015-2020)
He leads projects within the Exeter Food Health Analytics and Microbes and Society networks, utilizing Washington Singer Laboratories as his primary research base.
