Saddiq Dzukogi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Mississippi State University, where he teaches courses such as Intermediate Poetry Writing, Introduction to Creative Writing, and Craft of Poetry. He joined the faculty in fall 2022 after completing his Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
His research and creative work focus on poetry, storytelling, and African literary expression, with an emphasis on emotional depth, cultural memory, and identity. His teaching philosophy centers on fostering intellectual curiosity, compassion, and creative exploration in students.
Dzukogi's poetry has gained international acclaim, with his collection Your Crib, My Qibla winning the Derek Walcott Prize and being shortlisted for the Nigeria Prize for Literature. The book was also named one of the best poetry collections of the year by Oprah Daily. His chapbook Inside the Flower Room was published by Akashic Books as part of the African Poetry Book Fund series.
