Mark Wacome Stevick is Professor of Creative Writing at Gordon College, where he oversees the creative writing program and directs the Princemere Visiting Writers Series and Five Ponds Creative Writing Festival. He holds an MFA from Boston University where he studied with Derek Walcott, Robert Pinsky, Geoffrey Hill, and Rosanna Warren.
His research interests span creative writing across multiple genres including poetry, fiction, essays, playwriting, and film/documentary production. Stevick specializes in ekphrasis (poetry about artwork) and history-based theatrical works. His creative practice bridges academic instruction with professional artistic output.
His publications include the poetry chapbook Local Habitations (winner of the 2021 Wil Mills Award) and the forthcoming collection A Stadium Full of Bears. His interactive plays Cry Innocent and Goodnight, Captain White have been running in Salem for decades. His work shows consistent engagement with American poetry traditions, theatrical innovation, and historical reinterpretation.

Professor Stevick previously had a career in radio, writing commercials and hosting a Saturday morning children's show. He serves as front man for poets-at-large at the Palm Beach Poetry Festival and takes students to Boston to perform stories on The Moth. He co-leads Gordon's annual theatre seminar to London and Edinburgh where he teaches 'Writing the City.'
