Robert Pinsky is the William Fairfield Warren Distinguished Professor and Director of the Creative Writing Program at Boston University. He holds a BA from Rutgers University and an MA and PhD from Stanford University. Pinsky is a renowned poet, translator, and educator, known for his innovative poetry collections and leadership in promoting poetry's cultural role.
His research interests span poetry creation, translation (e.g., Dante's Inferno), and exploring poetry's societal impact. He founded the Favorite Poem Project during his tenure as U.S. Poet Laureate (1997–2000), which documented Americans’ relationships with poetry through documentaries and anthologies.
Pinsky’s awards include the Theodore Roethke Prize, Howard Morton Landon Translation Prize, and memberships in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences/Letters. His publications range from poetry collections like At the Foundling Hospital to critical works like The Sounds of Poetry. He has taught at Wellesley College and UC Berkeley before joining BU.
