Safia Jama is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of English at Barnard College, part of the First Year Foundation program. She is based in Office 270 of the LeFrak Center and can be reached at sjama@barnard.edu or via phone at 212.854.2116.
Her research and creative interests center on poetry and literary expression, with a focus on the African diaspora, identity, and resilience. She is actively contributing to contemporary American poetry through publications and media features.
Jama's work has appeared in prestigious literary journals such as Ploughshares, Boston Review, and World Literature Today, and has been broadcast on WNYC’s Morning Edition and CUNY TV’s Shades of US. While not traditional academic articles, her publications reflect a strong thematic engagement with personal and cultural narratives.
