Sacha Hasan is an Assistant Professor and Research Fellow at the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society at Heriot-Watt University, affiliated with The Urban Institute. Their research focuses on inclusive urbanism, health and wellbeing, and the experiences of marginalized communities, particularly regarding identity, social inclusion, and institutional structures.
Education and academic background include prior work on urban development governance in Syria and international development policies in Global South contexts. Current projects involve NHS-funded investigations into housing challenges for people with complex needs, digital housing access for minoritized groups, and participatory research with refugee communities.
Research interests span intersectionality, participatory methods, and policy impact on marginalized groups. Key projects include a Mental Health Foundation study on refugee communities’ civic engagement and a British Academy-funded initiative on inclusive blue/green spaces.
