Professor Philip Brown is a Professor of Housing and Communities at the University of Huddersfield, affiliated with the School of Human and Health Sciences and the Department of Social and Psychological Sciences. He leads the Healthy Housing Initiative (HHI) and is a member of the Just Futures Centre and Secure Societies Institute. With a background in psychology and chartered status from the British Psychological Society, his work focuses on housing inequalities, migration, homelessness, sustainability, and urban policy.
His research has been funded by organizations including the ESRC, EPSRC, European Commission, and UK Government departments. Recent projects include studying refugee housing integration and decarbonisation strategies in social housing. He actively engages with policy bodies such as the European Parliament and UK All-Party Parliamentary Groups on migration and Roma rights.
Key research interests include social inclusion, fuel poverty, and the impacts of Brexit on marginalized communities. He supervises PhD students and has contributed to policy briefs on housing justice and refugee integration. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to poverty reduction and sustainable cities.
Recent media contributions include expert commentary on NHS workforce housing crises and compassionate refugee policies. He has published over 128 peer-reviewed articles and reports, focusing on housing transitions, decarbonisation, and refugee pathways.
