Sabrina Stroppa is a Full Professor of Italian Literature at the University for Foreigners of Perugia, where she has been a faculty member since October 1, 2021. She previously served as a researcher and associate professor at the University of Turin from 1999. She is the director of the Department of Italian Language, Literature, and Arts in the World (LILAIM), and teaches courses in Italian literature, literary didactics, and textual analysis. Her academic work spans multiple institutions and scholarly networks across Italy and Europe.
Research Interests:
Sabrina Stroppa's research is deeply rooted in Italian literary and spiritual traditions. Her primary interests include Petrarch and Petrarchism, Renaissance commentaries on vernacular texts, 17th-century spiritual literature, Metastasio, and contemporary Italian poetry. She explores themes such as consolation, fortune, love (both carnal and spiritual), and the editorial and reception history of literary texts. Her work bridges philology, literary criticism, and religious studies, with a particular focus on the intersection of poetry and mysticism.
Recent Publications Trends:
Her most recent publications reflect a dual focus: on one hand, meticulous philological and editorial work on Renaissance and early modern texts (especially Petrarchan commentaries and spiritual writings); on the other, critical engagement with 20th-century Italian poetry, particularly the 1980s generation. She frequently examines how literary texts are received, interpreted, and embedded in cultural and editorial networks, whether in the Renaissance or in contemporary publishing contexts.
Scientific and Editorial Contributions:
She is co-editor of the international journal Petrarchesca and serves on the editorial boards of inOpera, Configurazioni, and Stilistica e metrica italiana. She has co-edited several volumes and organized international conferences on consolation, editorial networks, and Petrarchan exegesis.
Advising and Academic Leadership:
As department director and active scholar, Sabrina Stroppa supervises research projects, mentors junior scholars, and leads collaborative academic initiatives. She has directed conferences, workshops, and editorial projects that bring together international experts in Italian studies. Her leadership extends to guiding the academic direction of her department and shaping scholarly discourse through editorial and organizational work.
Labs and Research Groups:
She is involved in research communities focused on Petrarchan exegesis and cultural communities, notably through the Temporal Communities project. She has co-organized workshops and published volumes on how commentary traditions shape cultural and intellectual communities around canonical authors like Petrarch.
