Ryan X. Ward is a Research Fellow at Columbia University specializing in climate science and air quality. He earned his PhD in Environmental Science & Engineering from Caltech and previously studied Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Florida. His research explores aerosol-cloud-climate interactions, anthropogenic influences on atmospheric systems, and sustainable development implications for coastal resilience.
Research interests focus on: atmospheric chemistry of volatile organic compounds; aerosol formation mechanisms; agricultural methane emissions quantification; urban pollution monitoring; and climate model uncertainty reduction. Recent work employs airborne eddy covariance techniques and advanced sensor networks to validate emission inventories under real-world conditions.
Publications demonstrate strong emphasis on: 1) Urban pollution dynamics in Los Angeles basin; 2) Dairy operation emissions in San Joaquin Valley; 3) Nanoparticle toxicity assessment; 4) Air quality model development.
