Ryan Thurman serves as Lecturer and Director of the Forensic Biology Program within the Department of Biological Sciences at the University at Albany, a position he assumed in January 2018. He teaches forensic chemistry courses in the MS Forensic Biology program and previously instructed Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
His educational credentials include a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Arkansas.
Dr. Thurman's research centers on forensic chemistry and toxicology of emerging pharmaceutical analogues, with complementary expertise in protein-small molecule interactions and NMR spectroscopy. His work bridges biochemical mechanisms with forensic applications, particularly in novel psychoactive substances analysis.
Publication analysis reveals deep roots in molecular oncology (2008-2022), focusing on KRAS signaling mutations and FGFR biochemistry. Recent work (2020-2022) maintains oncology focus while his current role indicates strategic pivot toward forensic toxicology applications.
Scientific recognition includes:
- Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center fellowship (2013)
He maintains active teaching roles at both UNC and Albany across Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Forensic Chemistry disciplines. No public records indicate research grants or graduate student advisement.
Early research occurred in UNC's Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center biochemistry laboratories studying protein dynamics; current work aligns with Albany's Forensic Biology Program infrastructure for forensic toxicology research.
