Henrik Green serves as Deputy Head of Department and Professor in forensic sciences at Linköping University's Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. He also holds a position as Researcher/Molecular Biologist in Engineering and Genomics at the Department of Forensic Genetics and Forensic Toxicology, National Board of Forensic Medicine, Linköping.
His research spans three primary tracks:
- Genetic variation affecting drug response and side effects in cancer treatment
- Pharmacology and toxicology of new psychoactive substances (internet drugs)
- Forensic applications of genetics, including post-mortem metabolomics and AI for solving murders
Green's work focuses on identifying predictive biomarkers for drug metabolism and effects, with recent publications examining synthetic cannabinoids, pharmacogenomics in pediatric oncology, and cardiac genetics. His research group has developed tools to predict nerve damage from taxane-based cancer treatments and methods for rapid narcotics classification of new psychoactive substances.
He leads the Strategic Research Area in Forensic Sciences, a joint venture between the National Board of Forensic Medicine and Linköping University, and is part of the Cancer research network and SciLifeLab Linköping infrastructure. His team recently received SEK 13 million from the Swedish Research Council to develop AI methodologies for crime solving through detailed chemical analyses.
Green has developed rapid methods for measuring the effects of new psychoactive substances, contributing directly to narcotics classification efforts. His work on fentanyl analogues helped remove these dangerous substances from the market, preventing numerous deaths. He emphasizes the critical race against time when new designer drugs emerge, comparing consumption of unknown substances to 'playing Russian roulette.'
