Dr. Ryan Stevenson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and affiliated with the Brain & Mind Institute at the University of Western Ontario. His research focuses on sensory perception across the lifespan, examining how changes in sensory processing influence cognitive functions like speech perception. He employs behavioral measures, advanced neuroimaging (fMRI/EEG), and neuropsychological methods to study neurotypical populations and special groups, including autism spectrum disorders and cochlear implant users.
Research interests span multisensory integration, auditory neuroscience, developmental psychology, and clinical applications. His work explores sensory processing differences in neurodevelopmental disorders, aging, and sensory deprivation. Notable studies address temporal processing deficits in ADHD and autism, audiovisual speech integration in cochlear implant users, and neural mechanisms underlying sensory phenotypes.
Laboratory activities are centered in the Sensory Lab, where interdisciplinary approaches bridge basic science and clinical applications. Dr. Stevenson’s studies often involve collaborations in translational research to address gaps in understanding sensory-cognitive interactions across diverse populations.
