معرفی
Dr. Terrin Tamati is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Perceptual and Cognitive Neuroscience within the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of Groningen. Their research focuses on speech perception mechanisms in cochlear implant users, with particular emphasis on audiovisual integration, talker discrimination, and linguistic processing.
Research interests include:
- Cochlear implant user performance in real-world listening situations
- Audiovisual speech processing before and after cochlear implantation
- Effects of linguistic context on speech recognition
- Talker discrimination abilities in hearing-impaired populations
- Impact of regional dialects and speaking styles on speech comprehension
Recent publications demonstrate a clear trajectory examining how cognitive and perceptual factors influence speech understanding in cochlear implant recipients, with increasing focus on real-world applications and ecological validity. Their work spans both fundamental auditory processing questions and clinically relevant outcomes.
Scientific recognition includes:
- NWO VENI grant (2017) for research on talkers' voices and speech perception in cochlear implant users
Professional activities include organizing the MAPS Summer School (2018) and contributing to public engagement through media coverage of the VICI Grant project on voice perception with robots. Their research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
