Inyong Choi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Iowa. His research focuses on auditory-cognition mechanisms underlying speech perception in noise and clinical applications for hearing-impaired populations. He leads the Human Auditory Neuroscience Group, investigating neural markers for speech-in-noise processing and therapeutic interventions.
Key research areas include auditory attention, cochlear implant outcomes, and neuroplasticity. He has secured grants from the Department of Defense and NIH-NIDCD, including a $1.36M grant on speech-in-noise understanding. His work bridges basic neuroscience with clinical audiology, emphasizing translational research.
Courses taught include CSD 3113 (Hearing Science), CSD 6230 (Psychoacoustics), and graduate-level speech perception courses. He collaborates with multidisciplinary teams on projects like the Iowa Cochlear Implant Clinical Research Center.
Recent studies explore EEG/PET neuroimaging of speech processing, neurofeedback training efficacy, and objective assessment tools for cochlear implant users. His lab develops innovative methods to quantify auditory quality and assess central auditory processing deficits.
