Benjamin James Kirby, PhD, CCC-A, is an Associate Professor of Audiology and Undergraduate Program Coordinator in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Wichita State University's College of Health Professions. He directs the Auditory Cognition Lab (ACL) located in Hubbard Hall and serves as Editor of the Journal of Educational, Pediatric & (Re)Habilitative Audiology (JEPRA). Dr. Kirby holds AuD and PhD degrees from the University of Iowa.
His research program focuses on:
- Advanced hearing amplification systems
- Cochlear implant technology and outcomes
- Psychoacoustic perception mechanisms
- Interrelationships between cognitive processing and auditory function
- Rehabilitation strategies for hearing impairment
Dr. Kirby's research has appeared in top-tier journals including Ear and Hearing and Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, with consistent focus on experimental audiology and clinical applications. His work has been supported through competitive grants and fellowships from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) and Texas Speech-Language Hearing Foundation.
As director of the Auditory Cognition Lab, Dr. Kirby leads investigations into auditory perception and cognitive- hearing interactions, utilizing specialized facilities on WSU's main campus.
