Ryan Mitchell

Ryan Mitchell is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research examines public international law, comparative constitutional frameworks, and Chinese legal history, with emphasis on sovereignty discourses and global governance transformations. He holds a Ph.D. in Law from Yale University, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and a B.A. from The New School's Eugene Lang College.

Mitchell's interdisciplinary research bridges legal history, political economy, and international relations. His monograph Recentering the World: China and the Transformation of International Law (Cambridge University Press, 2022) analyzes China's impact on global legal structures through archival research. Current projects investigate Global South perspectives on international law enforcement and sustainable development.

His publications (2018-2024) predominantly explore sovereignty theories, economic sanctions mechanisms, and China's engagement with international institutions. Articles exhibit consistent themes: deconstructing Eurocentric legal paradigms, analyzing authoritarian human rights models, and historical examinations of Asian sovereignty disputes. Methodologically, they combine conceptual history with contemporary policy analysis.
