Michelle Miao is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She holds a DPhil in Law from the University of Oxford and LLM degrees from New York University and Renmin University of China. Her research focuses on intersections between law and technology, criminal justice, socio-legal studies, and comparative law.

Professor Miao’s work examines algorithmic governance, digital platform regulation, and human rights in authoritarian legal systems. She has published in leading journals such as the American Journal of Comparative Law, British Journal of Criminology, and Washington Journal of Law, Technology & Arts. Her scholarship addresses issues like biometric surveillance, death penalty reforms, and legal representation disparities in capital cases.
Recent publications highlight trends in digital governance (5 articles 2024-23), comparative penal systems (4 articles 2022-20), and socio-legal studies in China (3 articles 2019-17).
