Professor J. Ryan Lamare is a leading academic in Employment Relations and Human Resource Management at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He holds the position of Professor in the Department of Management and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the British Journal of Industrial Relations. Prior to LSE, he was the Reuben G. Soderstrom International Labor Relations Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with earlier roles at Penn State University, the University of Manchester, and the University of Limerick.
His research focuses on quantitative analyses of workplace institutions, political interactions, and conflict resolution mechanisms. Key areas include ER/HR responses to macro-level shocks (e.g., pandemics), multinational firm dynamics, and the interplay between labor policies and political systems. His work has been published in top journals like ILR Review, British Journal of Industrial Relations, and Industrial Relations.
Lamare has received multiple teaching awards throughout his career, including the LER Faculty Teaching Excellence Award at the University of Illinois.
