Ryan Krull

Ryan Krull is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Communication and Media at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL), within the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing (2014) and a BA in Communication (2010) from UMSL. His teaching portfolio includes courses like Introduction to News Writing and Feature Writing, and he advises UMSL’s student newspaper, The Current.

His research focuses on journalism, narrative nonfiction, and longform reporting. He has reported on voter ID laws, policing, addiction, and homelessness for The Riverfront Times. His articles emphasize cross-cultural journalism, media ethics, and local/community reporting. Notable works include investigations into Chinese media practices and profiles of student journalists.

He serves as Interviews Editor for Boulevard magazine and has mentored students through The Current. His work bridges academic teaching and professional journalism, with a focus on narrative-driven storytelling.
