Amy Bernhard is a Senior Lecturer in the English department at The University of Texas at Arlington. She holds an MFA and BA in English (Creative Writing and Theatre Arts) from the University of Iowa. Her research focuses on creative nonfiction, narrative journalism, and the intersections of art with societal issues.
Dr. Bernhard has received notable awards including a Fellow at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center (2016) and Loyola University’s Outstanding Instructor Award (2016). Her teaching spans creative writing, American literature, and advanced nonfiction courses, with a strong emphasis on student mentorship and innovative pedagogy.
Her creative work explores themes of identity, environment, and cultural critique through essays and journalistic narratives. Recent publications include pieces in Catapult, The Rumpus, and Michigan Quarterly Review.
