Amy Parker is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Iowa, part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She is actively engaged in teaching fiction and creative writing, contributing to both undergraduate and graduate programs in English.
Her research and creative work focus on contemporary fiction and narrative art. As a fiction writer, she explores themes of identity, human-animal relationships, and emotional landscapes in her stories. Her teaching emphasizes craft, voice, and revision in creative writing workshops.
Amy received her MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop, one of the most prestigious creative writing programs in the United States. Her debut collection, Beasts and Children, was published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in 2016, and she is currently working on a novel.
She has been recognized through competitive fellowships and grants, including support from the Sustainable Arts Foundation, Vermont Studio Center, Marble House Foundation, and the Clarion Foundation. These awards reflect the national esteem for her literary work.
Amy has taught at the University of Iowa and Wichita State University. While no advisees are listed, her role as a writing instructor involves close mentorship of student writers.
