Ryan Hovis serves as the Teaching Partner of Counseling and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychology at Bethel University, where he has been affiliated since 2016. He holds a B.A. in Psychology from Bethel University (2009), an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College (2011), and a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College (2016). His research focuses on family systems, spirituality, and integrative clinical practices. Dr. Hovis is a licensed psychologist in Minnesota and a Board-Approved LPC/LPCC Supervisor. He teaches courses such as Psychopathology and Diagnosis, Theories of Personality, and Principles of Counseling and Psychotherapy.
His professional awards include the Graduate Psychology Department Faith & Psychology Award and the Author P. Rech Clinical Psychology Integration Award, both from Wheaton College. His scholarly work addresses critiques of diagnostic systems, clinical interventions like Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and systemic approaches to mental health. He actively presents at conferences, including the Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS), on topics ranging from disaster care to wilderness therapy with at-risk youth.
Hovis is affiliated with the American Psychological Association, Christian Association for Psychological Studies, and Minnesota Psychological Association. His clinical expertise spans community mental health, college counseling, and private practice, emphasizing evidence-based therapies such as Child-Parent Psychotherapy and Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC) frameworks.
