Amy Evans is a Professor of Psychology and Core Faculty member at Bethel University, serving as Program Director for the Counseling (M.A.) program and Addiction Studies Certificate program. She has been at Bethel since 2018 and holds licenses as a Wisconsin LPC, Minnesota LPCC, and Approved Clinical Supervisor. Her expertise spans clinical mental health counseling, addictions, and supervision, with a focus on ethical practice, spirituality integration, and substance use disorder treatment.
Evans earned a B.A. in Psychology from Northwestern College (1996), an M.S.E. in Counselor Education from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville (2000), and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2010). Her teaching experience includes online and in-person instruction for counselors-in-training, covering courses like Addictions Counseling, Ethical Leadership, and Psychopathology.
Her research interests emphasize ethical counseling practices, multicultural competence, and the role of spirituality in therapy. She has authored textbooks on chemical dependency and published on topics like client-centered care and ethical decision-making. Her presentations address clinician self-care, managing political client perspectives, and trauma-informed ethics.
Evans actively contributes to professional organizations, including the American Counseling Association (since 1998), Wisconsin Counseling Association (holding leadership roles), and International Association of Addictions and Offender Counselors. She balances professional work with hobbies like yoga, camping in the Boundary Waters, and family time.
