Dr. Ruud Custers is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Utrecht University, specializing in social cognition, motivation, and the intersection with artificial intelligence. His research explores how goal representations influence behavior, particularly in interactions with AI agents.
- Education: PhD cum laude from Utrecht University (2006), Veni grant recipient (2006).
Research interests include nonconscious goal pursuit, the role of affect in motivation, human-AI interaction dynamics, and societal applications of goal systems theory. He leads the Goallab and contributes to the Institutions for Open Societies (IOS) initiative.
