Ruth Vasey is a Lecturer at Flinders University's College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. Her academic career spans comparative cultural studies, cinema history, and global media analysis, with a focus on Hollywood's international reception and media regulation. She has held teaching roles at UNSW and Flinders University, coordinated topics like The Hollywood Industry and Globalisation and Entertainment Media, and served as a program selector for the Hawaii International Film Festival.

Her research examines the industrial, social, and aesthetic history of American cinema, with particular emphasis on transnational audience engagement and media globalization. Vasey’s work has explored censorship frameworks and convergence cultures in screen media, reflecting her broader interest in media regulation.
She received the prestigious Kraszna-Kraus Moving Picture Book Award in 1997 for her book on Hollywood's international audiences. Her career has been supported by scholarships from the East-West Center (US Government) and the Commonwealth (British Government).
Vasey lived in the Adelaide Hills with her family and took leave from Flinders University in 2014.
