Gwenda Young is a Lecturer in Film Studies at the University College Cork (UCC), Department of Film and Screen Media. She holds an MA and PhD in Film Studies from University College Dublin. Her research focuses on American cinema, including classic Hollywood, silent cinema (1920s), film history, horror genre, and animals in media. She is renowned for her monograph on director Clarence Brown and her work on Irish amateur filmmaking. She has held leadership roles, including co-head of the Department of Film and Screen Media and editor roles in journals like Alphaville. Her research includes collaborations like the Creative Ireland-funded 'Movie Memories' project, producing documentaries and community outreach initiatives.
