Ruth Gibson is an Associate Professor at Coventry University's Research Centre for Dance Research, specializing in interdisciplinary digital performance practices. Her work bridges visual art, choreography, and emerging technologies like motion capture, virtual/augmented reality, and interactive installations. She co-leads collaborative projects with artist Bruno Martelli, producing award-winning works such as SwanQuake and MAN A, which explore human-machine interfaces and postmodern simulacra.
Ruth's research focuses on creating immersive environments that challenge perceptions of reality, supported by grants including a 3-year AHRC Creative Fellowship (2010) and NESTA Innovation Awards. She has advised major institutions like the BBC and Vicon on motion capture techniques, and her pedagogical work includes the EU-funded WhoLoDance project on AI-driven dance education.
