Ruth Abou Rached is a Lecturer in Arabic Cultural Studies at the University of Manchester's Department of Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies. Her research focuses on feminist translation theory, Iraqi women's writing, and MENA literatures. She co-edits the peer-reviewed journal New Voices in Translation Studies and leads the 'Landscapes of Future Memory' initiative documenting MENA cultural heritage.
- Teaching: Courses include Cultural Anthropology of the Middle East, Women and Gender Studies in MENA, and Translation Studies dissertation supervision.
- Community Engagement: Trustee of Langworthy Cornerstone charity, GCSE Arabic examiner, and community governor at Abraham Moss School.
- Awards: Social Responsibility Awards (2023), Fellow of HEA
Her monograph Reading Iraqi Women's Novels in English Translation (2021) analyzes feminist paratranslation practices. Current research explores translation pathways for endangered MENA literatures using 'au/their/ship' conceptual frameworks.
