Randa Abou Bakr is a Professor of English and comparative literature at Cairo University (2009–present). She holds a PhD in comparative literature from Cairo University (1994–1998). Her academic career includes visiting roles at the Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient (2009), Jagiellonian University of Krakow (2009), University of Leiden (2008), and guest professorships at the Free University of Berlin (2007–2008) and Seminar for Semitistik & Arabistik (2007–2009). She was affiliated with the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation during 2007–2009.
Her research focuses on comparative literature, postcolonial studies, and cultural dynamics in the Arab world. Notable works include Spaces of Participation (2021), analyzing social and political change in Arab societies, and The Conflict of Voices in the Poetry of Dennis Brutus and Mahmud Darwish (2004), exploring transnational poetic resistance.
Abou Bakr’s scholarly contributions span collaborative networks across Europe and the Middle East, emphasizing intercultural dialogue and Southern theory perspectives. She has participated in transregional research projects like De:link // Re:link, examining entanglements in global contexts.
