Nils Riecken is a Research Fellow at the ZMO, Berlin, affiliated with the BMBF research program "Muslim Worlds – World of Islam?" His work focuses on transregional history, particularly the intersections of the Maghreb, Mashreq, Asia, and Europe.
- PhD in Islamic Studies from Free University Berlin (2011)
- MA in Medieval/Modern History, Islamic Studies, and Political Science (Leipzig University & Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, 2008)
- B.A. in Modern/Early Modern History, Islamic Studies, and Political Science (Freiburg, 2001)
Research spans global intellectual history, history of knowledge, biographical approaches, and temporal theory. Publications emphasize Abdallah Laroui’s historical epistemology, periodization, and postcolonial critiques of culturalist knowledge production. Conference engagements include keynote addresses on interdisciplinarity and historical theory.

- Konrad-Adenauer Foundation merit scholarship (2001-2006)
Co-organized lecture series on contemporary Middle Eastern philosophy. Active in MESA and DAVO professional associations. Proficient in German, English, Arabic, French, and Spanish.
