Dr. Wessam Elmeligi is an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, affiliated with the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters. He serves as Director of the Center for Arab American Studies, the Comparative Literature Certificate program, and the Arabic Translate Certificate program. His expertise spans Arabic language, literature, and visual media, with a focus on diaspora narratives and gender studies.

Elmeligi’s research explores intersections of Arab Cinema, Classical and Modern Arabic Art and Literature, Gender Studies, and Visual Media. His work on Immigration Narratives and Graphic Novels highlights cultural identity and diaspora experiences. Publications analyze dystopian themes, feminist representation, and transnational storytelling.
Recent works include Dystopia in Arabic Speculative Fiction: A Poetics of Distress (2023), which examines speculative fiction as a lens for Arab cultural critiques, and Cultural Identity in Arabic Novels of Immigration (2021), focusing on diaspora literature. His scholarship spans Science Fiction, Persian Legends, and Arab American Graphic Narratives, reflecting interdisciplinary methodologies in Narratology and Visual Analysis.
