معرفی
Prof Russell Cowburn is a Professor at the University of Cambridge's Cavendish Laboratory, part of the School of Physical Sciences. His research focuses on nanotechnology, spintronics, and their applications in magnetism, electronics, optics, and healthcare. He has pioneered anti-counterfeiting technologies (e.g., Laser Surface Authentication) and founded three start-ups. He holds over 60 patents and has received prestigious awards, including the Royal Society Paterson Medal and IEEE Magnetics Society distinction. His work spans basic research to commercialization, with grants from the European Research Council (ERC Advanced Grant and Proof of Concept award).
His research group explores nanoscale magnetism for low-energy computing, ultrahigh-density data storage, and biomedical devices. Notable projects include magnetic heterostructures for cancer detection, 3D magnetic nanostructures for field manipulation, and voltage-controlled magnetic systems. He emphasizes translational research, bridging physics, technology, and business.
- Awards: GSK Westminster Medal (2003), Degussa Science to Business Award (2006), Hermes Technology Award (2007), IOP Paterson Medal (2008), Royal Society Paterson Medal (2016), IEEE Distinguished Lecturer (2015).
- Grants: ERC Advanced Investigator Grant, ERC Proof of Concept Award.
- Labs/Teams: Cavendish Laboratory's Physics of Life group, collaborating with industry partners on spintronic and biomedical applications.
