Rusi Jaspal is the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research & Knowledge Exchange) at the University of Brighton and a Professor of Psychology. He holds fellowships with multiple institutions, including the British Psychological Society and Royal Society of Arts. His research focuses on social psychology, public health, and identity processes, particularly in marginalized groups. He developed the Health Adversity Risk Model (HARM) and contributed to Identity Process Theory with Dame Glynis Breakwell. His work spans HIV prevention, mental health, and the psychological impact of crises like the COVID-19 pandemic.
Education: PhD (Royal Holloway, University of London), MPhil (University of Cambridge), MA (University of Surrey), and BA (University of Cambridge).
Research interests include minority stress, LGBTQ+ health, and identity resilience. He advises governmental bodies and chairs editorial boards for journals like HIV Medicine and the American Journal of Sexuality Education. Recent publications explore HIV stigma, mental health disparities, and coping strategies during crises. His work emphasizes translating research into actionable policies for marginalized communities.
