Professor Rupert Pearse is a NIHR Professor of Intensive Care Medicine at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), affiliated with the William Harvey Research Institute and the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. He graduated from St George’s Hospital Medical School in 1996 and completed clinical training in the south-west Thames region. He leads the Critical Care and Perioperative Medicine Research Group, focusing on improving patient outcomes following major surgery. His clinical duties involve managing critically ill patients at the Royal London Hospital’s Adult Critical Care Unit.
Education: MBBS (St George’s Hospital Medical School, 1996). Academic roles include promotion to Professor in 2014 after serving as Senior Lecturer since 2006. He actively contributes to national and international societies in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine.
Research interests encompass perioperative care pathways, global surgical outcomes, and clinical trials addressing postoperative complications. Notable projects include the LASOS and ACIOS studies, examining surgical outcomes in Latin America and Africa, respectively. His work emphasizes translational research to bridge clinical practice and evidence-based interventions.
