Roumen Nikolov, MD is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Yale Child Study Center within Yale School of Medicine. He serves as Medical Director and Chief of Psychiatry at Albert J Solnit Children's Center, Connecticut’s state facility for youth psychiatric care. His academic career includes clinical faculty roles at Yale Child Study Center, SUNY Downstate, NYU Child Study Center, and St. George University.
Education: MD from Medical University of Varna, Psychiatry residency at Saint Vincent's Hospital/NY Medical College (1995-1998), and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at Solnit Center (1998-2000).
Research focuses on psychiatric training methods, LEAN improvement in behavioral health systems, administrative psychiatry, autism, and disruptive behavior management. He has authored/co-authored over 10 peer-reviewed publications on topics ranging from psychopharmacology in juvenile justice settings to big data platforms for senior care.
His clinical work emphasizes reducing seclusion/restraint practices, optimizing PRN medication use, and staff training for nonsuicidal self-injury management. He has pioneered application of Lean methodology in inpatient psychiatric units to improve operational efficiency.
