Ross J. Salawitch

Ross J. Salawitch is a Professor at the University of Maryland, College Park, with joint appointments in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Science, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC). He holds a B.S. in Applied and Engineering Physics from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Harvard University. His research focuses on climate change, stratospheric ozone depletion, air quality, and the global carbon cycle, supported by extensive field campaigns and satellite missions such as CONTRAST and OCO-2.

Salawitch has received notable awards, including the Yoram J. Kaufman Award and NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal, and contributed to IPCC reports recognized by the Nobel Peace Prize. He advises graduate students and collaborates internationally, serving on committees like the Maryland Air Quality Control Advisory Council.
