Rosemary Grady is a Lecturer in Educational Leadership & Learning at the Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh. She holds dual affiliations with the Institute for Education, Teaching and Leadership (IETL) and is a Senior Teaching Fellow. Her professional journey includes roles as a primary school teacher, headteacher, and leader in Fife Council’s Pedagogy Team, which focused on enhancing pedagogical practices in disadvantaged communities. She currently co-chairs the Scottish Professional Learning Network and collaborates with GTCS and Education Scotland on educational initiatives.
Dr. Grady’s research focuses on educational leadership and teacher learning, particularly the impact of the Into Headship leadership preparation program. Her EdD research (University of Strathclyde) explores how this program influences newly appointed headteachers, emphasizing themes of identity, socialisation, and communities of practice. She teaches on M.Ed Leadership and Learning programs, including the Into Headship and Middle Leadership courses.
Her career highlights include leading systemic cultural change in a former mining area school recognized as outstanding by HMIe, and her team’s Excellence in Professional Learning Award for work on ‘Breaking the Cycle of Disadvantage.’ Professional interests include quality professional learning’s impact on educators and student outcomes.
